Urine Drug Screen Program and UDS FAQ's

Urine Drug Screen Program and UDS FAQ’s

CPHP can provide urine drug screen (UDS) monitoring, if clinically indicated, to assist with maintaining an individual’s sobriety or to use as an assessment tool when behavior changes are noted. CPHP has developed a urine drug screen panel specific for professionals in the health care field and utilizes collection sites in the community that provide direct collection observation utilizing NIDA standards.

UDS FAQ’s

What is the check in line number for First Lab?
(215) 396-5504, 24 hrs a day.

How can I find a collection site?
There are many collection site locations across Colorado. Please call the Compliance Coordinator at CPHP 303-860-0122 ext: 227 or you may contact First Lab directly at 215-215-540-1651 ext. 207 for further information on collection sites.

What if I need to be excused from urine drug screens for a period of time?
If there is a reason (such as vacation or business trip) you will not be able to provide a UDS on a day that you may be scheduled, YOU MUST NOTIFY CPHP IN WRITING 14 DAYS in advance (last minute requests may not be considered without documentation of the emergency.) An excused break in UDS may be approved by CPHP. If the request is not excused you may need to find an alternate site. You will be expected to participate in locating a site if an alternate site is not available. If you miss a scheduled UDS that has not been excused, it will be considered missed and positive.

How do I request time off from the UDS program?
Please use the UDS excuse request form which can be found on the CPHP website. Complete the UDS Excuse Request Form out and fax it to CPHP at, 303-860-7426 or send by mail.

Will my UDS be observed?
Yes, CPHP does require that all UDS be monitored. On a rare occasion, if an observed collection is not possible, the collection site follows standard DHHS protocol. If you have difficulty having observed UDS, contact the Compliance Coordinator to assist you.

What should I do if I forget to call the check in line?
In the event that you forget to call the First Lab check in line you MUST call and speak with your Clinician. If you miss calling in and do not notify CPHP it will be considered a missed, positive UDS result.

How often do I need to call the check in line?
You must call the check in line either five or seven days a week as assigned to determine if you have been selected for that day. The Compliance Coordinator will inform you at the time of UDS enrollment of your call in schedule.

Who pays for the urine drug screens?
You are responsible for the costs associated with the screens.

What if I am prescribed medications?
You must notify CPHP of the current medications you are taking and you MUST provide copies of any and all prescriptions to CPHP prior to providing a UDS.

How does CPHP/First Lab handle dilute samples?
It is important that you not provide dilute samples. If a sample is dilute, the testing lab performs additional testing (which incurs additional testing costs).

Does CPHP require hair tests as well?
In some cases CPHP requests clients to undergo hair testing. Most of the collection sites through First Lab can provide hair testing. In the event that CPHP requires a hair test your Clinician and the Compliance Coordinator will inform you of the protocol.

Who can I contact at CPHP about the UDS program?
Ask to speak with the Compliance Coordinator at CPHP if you have additional questions or concerns about UDS at 303-860-0122 ext: 227
